This book has been so effective for achieving better fitness while having such a busy lifestyle and an ever-changing schedule. The value of this book comes from it’s simple, time-saving action plan for fitness. No wasting time having to read the author’s opinions through eye-blurring text, just workouts. I highly recommend this book.

my husband and I were trying to come up with our own, at home work outs to do and struggled to make good work out plans for each day. This book made it sooo easy and more fun for us! Just open the book, choose a work out and get in shape. LOVE the book. Can’t wait to complete the 100 work outs

I work out regularly at the gym but sometimes it's tough to get there or I don't have the time for a full workout with weights. This book has everything I need to make sure I get an excellent workout in with or without the time. Perfect to compliment your routine but would also work as a standalone regimen and still produce amazing results!

Great go to workouts!! My husband and I received our copy a few days ago and the workouts are wonderful and it is nice to have something to go by so you do not have to think of a workout. This will be great for traveling! Also, if you want to make the workouts harder and you have some free weights at home, use them or do multiple rounds!

I compete in the octagon and I was too bulky. I started doing these workouts instead of lifting weights and it was just what I needed to keep my strength while trying to cut down. Another thing I liked is it was work at your own pace which is great for people just starting or someone who has worked out for years. All in all a great book for all levels.

Such an amazing book! I’ve always struggled to find time to work out. This book has made it possible! It is definitely a great gift for anyone who is looking to get active with little time required. I would give this book 100 stars if you could.

I bring this book with me everywhere I go. Perfect for someone who's always on the move, loaded with tons of great workouts that you can do anywhere. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to get into shape but doesn't have the convenience of going to the gym often.

Great book. Easy to follow and great to use on the go.

Amazon.com Review

An Amazon Best Book of March 2018: As Crimson Lake opens, former cop Ted Conkaffey is in a bad way: accused but not convicted of killing a teenager, his marriage is over, he doesn’t know when he’ll see his baby daughter again, his job is gone, and the thin blue line has turned its back on him. Alone, he spends his nights drinking in a cheap rented house in the grim suburb of Crimson Lake, listening to the sounds of angry neighbors and opportunistic teens throwing missiles at his front windows and grappling with “dark thoughts.” Even when his parole officer sets him up with a job as an investigator, it doesn’t seem like a leg up: his new boss Amanda Pharrell did time too, for murdering her best friend when they were teenagers, and Crimson Lake residents haven’t forgotten. When they go to interview the family in their first case together, Ted can only pray they don’t recognize his face from TV. Two investigators operating under this level of scrutiny and hostility is a great set up for a tense thriller and Fox does a superb job of weaving past and present murders together, setting up a literary shell game to keep the reader guessing who’s guilty and who’s innocent. And the humbled, by-the-book cop finding himself working for a damaged woman with an unorthodox approach to investigating adds an additional layer of complexity to a story that is shaping up to be a great new series. --Vannessa Cronin

Amanda and Ted are both damaged individuals but somehow together they make a great, if quirky team. Amanda went to prison for murder. Ted was accused, but never convicted of abducting and raping a young girl. They come together to work on a murder case. There’s a lot going on here. Some of the reviews say this book was slow, as if that was a bad thing. It may be slow-ish at times, (I prefer “methodical”), but definitely never boring. . Several mysteries are intertwined in this story...some come to a satisfying resolution, but not all. The ending is bit of a cliffhanger, so I really hope there will be more Amanda and Ted mysteries to come!

The plot and writing style are good. The ending though, is overdone. Unfortunately the main Male character is quite the wimp, always getting beaten up and never standing up for himself. That took away a lot from the book. At the end of the book is a preview of the next book in this series, and sure enough, Ted gets beaten up again right at the beginning. For a big guy who used to be a cop, Ted can't even seem to defend himself. Stupid. No one gets beat down I real life like this guy. The author needs to give that a rest. I will have to think really hard before I pay money to read her next book.

First Sentence: I was having some seriously dark thoughts when I found Woman.Ted Conkaffey was tried for the rape of a teenage girl but was released when enough evidence couldn't be found to convict him. Now he lives every day with the fear of being re-arrested. Amanda Pharrell served eight years for murder, was released and is now a PI in Crimson Lake, Australia. When a wealthy woman hires Amanda to determine whether the woman's missing husband, author Jake Scully, is dead, Amanda insists that Ted help her with the case. What did happen to the husband? Is Ted really innocent? Was Amanda really guilty? One of the best types of openings is one which intrigues the reader, draws one in and insists one follow without having any idea where the path will lead. It is also on which creates such a strong sense of place and character that one is immediately involved in the story. Fox achieves both goals.Fox creates excellent visual images—"Moss and vines grew on every surface they could manage. Along the rivers, broken-down houses with yawning doorways squatted in the brush, peering out, not a brick or patch of wood that composed them showing through their cloaks of lush leaves."It's the characters which compel one to keep reading. Interesting, unusual, well-constructed characters are a reader's dream. Fox makes that dream come true. Learning of Ted's former profession is a nicely-done twist. The more one gets to know about Amanda, with her set of rules, the more fascinating she becomes. Yet Fox doesn't ignore the secondary characters, especially forensic pathologist Valerie Gratteur. Although there are a lot of different characters, Fox segments them into the story so that one never becomes confused as to who each is.While the characters are a strength, Fox doesn't ignore the plot. Periodic inclusions of anonymous letters which had been sent to the victim are a bit of a cliché and not entirely unreminiscent of the story "Misery," but they do cause one to wonder down what path they will lead, and the more we learn about the victim, the more interesting even he becomes. With the addition of the second thread—questioning whether Amanda really did murder her friend—and the third thread—Amanda not believing that Ted raped the girl--one is given a lot to consider while never losing track of each plot line. Fox does a remarkable job of laying out the primary investigation step-by-step while making us understand the trauma Ted and Amanda suffered from their individual experiences."Crimson Lake" has a very good escalation of suspense which may result in reading very late into the night. Ted and Amanda are a team of whom one wants to see more. This is a wonderful read with a perfect epilogue and ending.CRIMSON LAKE (LicInv- Ted Connor (Conkaffey)/Amanda Pharrell– Australia-Contemp) – VG+ Fox, Candice – 1st in series Forge – Mar 2018

Enjoyable read, interesting characters, enough mystery to keep you curious. Will read another Candice Fox.

I bought this book a year ago, and for some reason I didn’t get around to reading it. The sequel ‘Redemption Point’ has just been released, so I decided I’d better get going before reading the sequel.I started it yesterday. It’s an incredible read, with great characters, marvellous plot twists and an ending I didn’t see coming. The sequel follows directly on from where ‘Crimson Lake’ finishes, and has a short recapitulation of what happened previously, so it could be read separately. But for maximum pleasure, it should be read first.

From the very beginning the reader is certain of the innocence of the two main characters. The vigilantes , and police, and nagging press, are awful. The suspense had me up very late to finish the book. A very good read.

Interesting new set of characters. Lot of good stuff on the insights to how investigations affect everyone. But that aside good book, good pace, a little jumpy round, but probably couldn't be told any other another way. Will look for next one.

I want more, more, more Candice Fox. I pre-ordered Crimson Lake, just brilliant. Have read and enjoyed all previous books so when is the next one please?

What is it really like to be young, beautiful, strong willed, and searching for love but failing? I read books like this by the dozen, but NEVER have read one as good as this. I was simultaneously reading Dostoevsky's 'Crime and Punishment'- and I swear- 'Since you Ask' is as good- although not high- brow at all. I thought it was a modern masterpiece. In an age of Briget Jones, and everyone in novels going to therapy blah blah- this book tells the truth- at least how I recall it: that when you are young, beautiful, priveliged, and nutty- you chart your own course- and let the chips fall where they may. I would give it six stars, if I could!

Since You Ask is a book that sneaks up on you. From its unassuming beginning, Louise Wareham's consistent use of a detached, first-person narrative begins to do its job, a position you're not quite clear about at the onset. The first paragraph of the book ends with these lines:"Usually, I was nervous around Ray, but I wasn't that day. Partly because I didn't live at home anymore and partly because Ray didn't bother me anymore."A recent reviewer of the book commented:"We soon realize that as a narrator, Betsy is a master of detached understatement. That 'bother me' actually means she endured years of sexual abuse by her drug-addled sibling."The phrase "detached understatement" is itself an understatement that doesn't quite capture exactly what's going on in the way Betsy sees and describes the world. The writing style, which often overpowers the content with seemingly amateurish preoccupations with trivial descriptions, takes a while to get used to. For example, almost every new character, place, or object is introduced almost solely in terms of details that do little to flesh out the person or thing being described. Short, matter-of-fact statements describe scenes with more detail than is necessary, but with less feeling than you'd expect to come from such overdescription. Color is often the most identifying characteristic in any given description. We learn that "the grass was long and green" or that Betsy was "drinking from green bottles of beer," but these descriptions seem both unnecessary and incomplete. At some places, such descriptive sentences just follow one another, creating what appears to be an unnessessary inventory of the colors in a given scene:"His shirt is pale blue, with the smooth light sheen of part polyester/part cotton. His tie is navy blue and loosely knotted. Out the window, the grass is thick and green and dark."The irony of such overdescription is that it actually doesn't describe enough. It reduces an otherwise rich circumstance, event, or person to a collection of superficial identifying characteristics. This style becomes relentless and numbing, like the early stages of Chinese water torture, but the more you read the more you begin to realize that's the point. The style itself gets the reader into Betsy's head, which has itself been numbed by years of actual abuse, manipulation, anger, fear, and self-loathing. She sees the world with this cold, alienated gaze, in which surfaces hold more interest and less danger than the personalities inside. As a reader, looking to understand her environment on a deeper level, we're left constantly disappointed and made acutely aware that we're seeing exactly what Betsy sees, a world that might be colorful but that is far from pretty.Ultimately, this style is a tough device to maintain and still offer a payoff in the end. Though resolving the novel's main conflicts without oversimplifying them would be inappropriate and rather insulting to the reader, leaving them unresolved makes for an unsatisfying conclusion. Still, it's a brave ending. You realize that Wareham's goal is not to satisfy but to unsettle, and she definitely succeeds in doing so. The itch you go the whole book looking to get scratched remains tingling in you after you've put the book down. Since Betsy gets little relief herself, this seems fitting and fair.A note on the design: This book's main handicap is its unfortunate cover. Based on this cover, I would never have even bothered picking it up at the bookstore, which would have been a shame indeed. Akashic would be wise to redesign the book before its first reprint.

Reviewed by Colleen Hollister for Small Spiral NotebookLouise Wareham's first novel, Since You Ask, speaks out of a tradition of fragile women poetically captured, of women both idealized and in trouble, caught in some version of a downward spiral. Wareham echoes Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton and Lolita, and works with subjects more often found in memoirs of depression and mental illness. There is room, however, for a novel like Since You Ask, because it is earnest and beautiful, because the voice at its center shimmers with truth.Betsy Scott has a wealthy and successful family, an exotic Antiguan background, a privileged private school existence. She's surrounded by rich friends, lush New York penthouses, silk, perfume, yachts and riding boots. Telling her story from within a Connecticut mental hospital, Betsy makes it clear that these rich trappings are mere gloss. At sixteen she has an affair with her boyfriend's 41 year-old boss; in her early twenties develops drug addictions spurred on by her older brother Raymond; throughout she teeters on the edges of health and sanity, unsure of every facet of her identity. Though long keeping it secret from her friends and family, Betsy early on reveals to the reader that Raymond molested her at age nine; the resulting conflicting feelings affect her every other interaction.Such a story of secrets, dysfunction and self-destruction could easily degenerate into cliché. The characters surrounding Betsy are undeveloped, as if pulled from a pool of stock types. With the central events laid out for the reader from the beginning, the novel lacks narrative pull. It is Betsy and her own feelings that are the focus of the novel, however, and it is her voice that saves it. She feels `fragmented' and `broken'; Wareham's writing replicates these inner conflicts and emotions nicely, through the skips between paragraphs and time periods, the adding on of bits and pieces as the novel progresses. Descriptions that are sense- and color-driven, lyrical, soft, and reminiscing offset the darkness of the situations, adding to the complexity and giving us a clearer picture of the many factors involved in Betsy's personality. Some quirks of Wareham's writing style do become repetitive - an overuse of certain metaphors, the very similar description for every character, an awkwardness of flow especially in the first pages - but these are admirable attempts at creating a voice for her character. The repetition creates a consistency, a smoothness of speech that holds the novel together.Such factors make Since You Ask an easy read. Wareham's writing is uncomplicated, spare, perhaps even unsophisticated. These qualities do not work to dismiss its merit, but rather suit its purpose. Wareham has not set out to write a jarring emotional ride, an exposé of personality and family dysfunction; she does not aim for cheap shock. Her style, slow and quiet as it is, makes for a book quickly read because it is compelling. Wareham's Betsy is perceptively and sensitively drawn. The descriptions are often beautiful, and the emotions feel solid and true to the situation. Despite its faults - and in some cases, perhaps because of them - Wareham's novel has succeeded. This is a strong and promising debut.

A solid read that addresses the abuse of young lady and the impacts it has on her life. Despite being privileged and wealthy, Betsy doesn't ooze entitlement, so much as tragedy and brokenness. Some folks are screwed from an early start and she's one of them.I must admit that this felt long, despite being only 213 pages. I understand the patterned behavior. And, I get how many of the folks in this book are simply void of any decency...and that our lead character is drawn to these people. It's just kinda hard to read for 175 pages before you reach some semblance of humanity.

About the Author

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929–1968), Nobel Peace Prize laureate and architect of the nonviolent civil rights movement, was among the twentieth century’s most influential figures. One of the greatest orators in U.S. history, King was the author of several books, including Stride Toward Freedom: The Montgomery Story, The Trumpet of Conscience, Why We Can’t Wait, and Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community? His speeches, sermons, and writings are inspirational and timeless. King was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968.   Walter Dean Myers is the critically acclaimed best-selling author of more than eighty books for children and young adults. In 2012, Myers was named National Ambassador for Young People's Literature.

From “Black and White Together”Faced with diminishing adult support for protests in Birmingham, in 1963 Dr. King turned to the city’s young people. James Bevel of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) suggested recruiting local students to participate, reasoning that since they did not have jobs to lose, they would be more willing to risk arrest. After being trained in the principles of nonviolence, more than one thousand African American students skipped their classes on May 2 and gathered in downtown Birmingham, marching directly into police lines to demand desegregation of local businesses, public facilities and restaurants. While hundreds were arrested and jailed, many more young people returned the next day to take their places. In the ensuing confrontation, T. Eugene “Bull” Connor, Birmingham’s commissioner of public safety, ordered fire hoses and police dogs to be unleashed on the unarmed protestors. Here, Dr. King recounts the “Children’s Crusade” and other important events that led to the end of segregation in Birmingham. After eight days of imprisonment, Ralph Abernathy and I accepted bond to come out of jail for two purposes. It was necessary for me to regain communication with the S.C.L.C. officers and our lawyers in order to map the strategy for the contempt cases that would be coming up shortly in the circuit court. Also, I had decided to put into operation a new phase of our campaign, which I felt would speed victory. I called my staff together and repeated a conviction I had been voicing ever since the campaign began. If our drive was to be successful, we must involve the students of the community. In most of the recent direct-action crusades, it had been the young people who sparked the movement. But in Birmingham, of the first four or five hundred people who had submitted themselves to arrest, two-thirds had been adults. We had considered this a good thing at the time, for a really effective campaign incorporates a cross section of the community. But now it was time to enlist the young people in larger numbers. Even though we realized that involving teenagers and high-school students would bring down upon us a heavy fire of criticism, we felt that we needed this dramatic new dimension. Our people were demonstrating daily and going to jail in numbers, but we were still beating our heads against the brick wall of the city officials’ stubborn resolve to maintain the status quo. Our fight, if won, would benefit people of all ages. But most of all we were inspired with a desire to give to our young a true sense of their own stake in freedom and justice. We believed they would have the courage to respond to our call.James Bevel, Andy Young, Bernard Lee and Dorothy Cotton began visiting colleges and high schools in the area. They invited students to attend after-school meetings at churches. The word spread fast, and the response from Birmingham’s youngsters exceeded our fondest dreams.By the fifties and by the hundreds, these youngsters attended mass meetings and training sessions. They listened eagerly as we talked of bringing freedom to Birmingham, not in some distant time, but right now.We taught them the philosophy of nonviolence. We challenged them to bring their exuberance, their youthful creativity, into the disciplined dedication of the movement. We found them eager to belong, hungry for participation in a significant social effort. Looking back, it is clear that the introduction of Birmingham’s children into the campaign was one of the wisest moves we made. It brought a new impact to the crusade, and the impetus that we needed to win the struggle.Immediately, of course, a cry of protest went up. Although by the end of April the attitude of the national press had changed considerably, so that the major media were according us sympathetic coverage, yet many deplored our “using” our children in this fashion. Where had these writers been, we wondered, during the centuries when our segregated social system had been misusing and abusing Negro children? Where had they been with their protective words when, down through the years, Negro infants were born into ghettos, taking their first breath of life in a social atmosphere where the fresh air of freedom was crowded out by the stench of discrimination? The children themselves had the answer to the misguided sympathies of the press. One of the most ringing replies came from a child of no more than eight who walked with her mother one day in a demonstration. An amused policeman leaned down to her and said with mock gruffness: “What do you want?”The child looked into his eyes, unafraid, and gave her answer. “F’eedom,” she said. She could not even pronounce the word, but no Gabriel trumpet could have sounded a truer note.Even children too young to march requested and earned a place in our ranks. Once when we sent out a call for volunteers, six tiny youngsters responded. Andy Young told them that they were not old enough to go to jail but that they could go to the library. “You won’t get arrested there,” he said, “but you might learn something.” So these six small children marched off to the building in the white district, where, up to two weeks before, they would have been turned away at the door. Shyly but doggedly, they went to the children’s room and sat down, and soon they were lost in their books. In their own way, they had struck a blow, for freedom. The children understood the stakes they were fighting for. I think of one teenage boy whose father’s devotion to the movement turned sour when he learned that his son had pledged himself to become a demonstrator. The father forbade his son to participate.“Daddy,” the boy said, “I don’t want to disobey you, but I have made my pledge. If you try to keep me home, I will sneak off. If you think I deserve to be punished for that, I’ll just have to take the punishment. For, you see, I’m not doing this only because I want to be free. I’m doing it also because I want freedom for you and Mama, and I want it to come before you die.”That father thought again, and gave his son his blessing. The movement was blessed by the fire and excitement brought to it by young people such as these. And when Birmingham youngsters joined the march in numbers, an historic thing happened. For the first time in the civil-rights movement, we were able to put into effect the Gandhian principle: “Fill up the jails.”Jim Bevel had the inspiration of setting a “D” Day, when the students would go to jail in historic numbers. When that day arrived, young people converged on the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in wave after wave. Altogether on “D” Day, May 2, more than a thousand young people demonstrated and went to jail. At one school, the principal gave orders to lock the gates to keep the students in. The youngsters climbed over the gates and ran toward freedom. The assistant superintendent of schools threatened them with expulsion, and still they came, day after day. At the height of the campaign, by conservative estimates, there were 2,500 demonstrators in jail at one time, a large proportion of them young people.Serious as they were about what they were doing, these teenagers had that marvelous humor that arms the unarmed in the face of danger. Under their leaders, they took delight in confusing the police. A small decoy group would gather at one exit of the church, bringing policemen streaming in cars and on motorcycles. Before the officers knew what was happening, other groups, by the scores, would pour out of other exits and move, two by two, toward our goal in the downtown section. Many arrived at their destination before the police could confront and arrest them. They sang as they marched and as they were loaded into the paddy wagons. The police ran out of paddy wagons and had to press sheriff’s cars and school buses into service.Watching those youngsters in Birmingham, I could not help remembering an episode in Montgomery during the bus boycott. Someone had asked an elderly woman why she was involved in our struggle.“I’m doing it for my children and for my grandchildren,” she had replied.Seven years later, the children and grandchildren were doing it for themselves.

I've never read a "warship pictorial" on a Midway-class carrier. Full of great stuff, on the whole life of this first supercarrier. Only missed out on the capabilities of the 5"/54 battery. The first ship to mount this type. The failure of the 20' increase in beam was very interesting in how it affected ship-handling. Next time I'm in San Diego, I gotta visit this ship. I wonder if George Gay will be there!

it filled a gap in my collection

Almost exactly the same book as the USS Midway by I. B. Clayton, just less info and smaller pictures.Unless you are looking for the readers digest version, the larger 160 page (vs this 76 page) version of the USS Midway is the one you want.

Jail - I know George Gay - VP17 HS-12 VF-111

This version does have 13 photos not included in the original 160-page book. It also has color versions of photos that were black and white in the original. Steve Wiper is correct in his comment that many of the photos in this version are better quality versions.
