Great explanation of moon phases for my 3-year-old (and a good refresher for me)! Goes into detail but not too much for the younger kids.

A GREAT teacher at a typically under-supported school needed reading materials for the students; it was VERY much appreciated...

This book won’t disappoint when studying space & the moon.

I'm glad I bought this book. My 6 year understood and read easily. My 4 year old needed more explaining. I learned a few things. The activity is nice.

I purchased this book to go along with a moon/sun science lesson. It is a cute book with some good, interesting information, but it did not work for the purpose of reading aloud to the kids. I let the kids look at it one at a time, but I used something different for reading aloud. Still a good book for the money.

I love this book for young children. I recently got a wall mounted moon light that has a remote to show different moon phases. This book will be great with it!

This book provided a straight forward intro to the phases of the moon for my first graders. We did the experiment with the orange and it was very successful. The kids have enjoyed looking at it again and again.

Explained in a simplistic manner. My kid liked the moon phases experiment. It is very good book but there is still room to make it better. That is the reason for 4 stars.

Super cute, got as gift for my brother who just graduated from Clemson. Only complaint is I wish it had more artwork of actual spots on campus and shows more the tradition.

We are tremendous Clemson University fans with a family legacy to the school. What an education from there and what a precious book for my grandsons. They love night time reading and this is great since they also come to all the games. Thank you for this cute little book.

Great illustrations, good bed time story for any Clemson fan or soon-to-be Clemson fan

Such a cute book! My 9 year old son loved it. He said even if the words were a bit easy for him to read, the story made him happy!

Bought as a baby shower gift for a friend who is a Clemson fan. They loved it. I think daddy enjoys it the most.

My grandchild loves this book

Bought for a Clemson alum who had never heard of the book, she loves it!

Was a gift.

This is written in the vernacular that only a Ph D candidate can appreciate. Expect to read passages a couple of time as Rollins gets bogged down in polysyllabic words to relay simple concepts. Although I may not agree with every tenant that he espouses, I must say that his premise of betraying organized religion in order to save "faith" is quite compelling. This is a must read for anyone into apologetics. It's even a good read for someone in a crisis of faith or who wants to understand their faith more.

Excellent book that lays out in a scholarly way exactly the issues which Jews and Christians have with the scriptural narrative. It has taken us a long time to get back to St Augustine's insight and Rollins should be congratulated. One only hopes the Episcopal Church turns back from its pursuit of politically correct dogma in order to emphasize personal transformation.

Fidelity of Betrayal is a great read if you are willing not to argue with it from the start. It offers an intriguing way of examining the place and role of Judas in the Gospels that is imaginative and challenging. Through its examination of old testament narrative and the gospels argument is made that causes one to reexamine centuries held assumptions. While it may not work well in its rawest forms as content for a Sunday morning congregation, it definitely is a good read for anyone who is involved in exegetical work of any kind (preachers, teachers, etc.).

I've read Peter Rollins' How Not to Speak of God a few times, and that short discourse always leaves me wanting more. The Fidelity of Betrayal is that something more. Using popular Bible passages, the book examines the seemingly contradictory notion that perhaps the most religious thing we can do is to not be religious. This is Rollins at his best: academic, challenging, and unconventional.

This book turns religion on it's head. It makes you think about the gospel in ways you always thought were heretical, but in which makes complete sense. Very challenging. Peter Rollins writes at a pretty high level, almost like reading philosophy which is one reason I love it!

An outstanding book that presents a mature view of God beyond the need to literalize and fully in line with mystic thought and experience. Absolutely essential for anyone moving toward a mature Christian experience.

I found this to be a very enjoyable and accessible exploration of the paradox of faith. Mr. Rollins has a gift for balancing a rich intellectualism with humility, humor, and vibrant sorry-telling. I very much appreciated the parables too!

I just have one parable to illustrate from the book that pretty much gives you a taste of what this book is all about. I am paraphrasing here but here is the main gist of this parable. its about a monk dude that lives at the base of this mountain and the guy lives in a very secluded area and doesn't even have a door on his house. so this thief knows this and is like, bam I could rob this guy super easy so he makes the trek out while this monk is out walking and when he gets inside the door the house is empty. The monk returns and finds the startled burglar and says to him. wow brother man i feel bad you came all the way out here to rob me and have got nothing to show for it. so he gets naked and gives the thief his clothes and the blanket he sleeps on. the thief just takes the stuff and peaces out not knowing how to respond. as the monk builds a fire and looks up to the moon he says. man if that thief knew i was even ready to give him the moon. You see the treasure this monk had is not something that belonged to him but rather was given to him and the only way to respond is this- "all one can do when ones treasure is not of physical nature is to point toward it, recall it, and invite people to bask in it." BAM WHAM THANK YOU MAAAM. All I have to say is that the Good Lord is using Peter Rollins in marvelous ways (at least in my life) and I have to tell you. If you ain't read none of his books, ya better recognize and buy them up. Trust me it will be well worth your time and money! These books have been the single best investment i have made this year. Peter Rollins if you aint heard about him, HEAR about him! Word

The author kept his word in that his history of Chicago would be different from most other histories. His theme was economic-based. He focused on the geography, explaining the initial situation of how Chicago started in the location that it did. Then how the people I've came the obstacles of the location to build the city. Like many cities, there was no overarching plan. The city had problems and plenty of them. But then came the Great Fire, which provided a second chance to make it a better place. This set the stage for the high-rise Chicago we know today. Then in 1893 came the White City showing the world what Chicago had become after the fire and what it could become in the future. A very interesting history that has led me to other books about Chicago. I highly recommend this book.

Donald Miller wrote a masterpiece that belongs in every library. I loved it so much that I read it twice and you can believe it will remain in my personal library as both an entertainment and reference source. What can I say about Miller other than WOW!City of the Century is a wonderfully written history of the development and trials and tribulations of nineteenth century Chicago. The good - the bad - and the ugly. The story is captivating and I found it hard to put it down. Note: after my 1st read, I bought copies for my brothers and grandchildren and they too love this book.I submit that it should be a MUST read for anyone with an interest is U.S. history since it is a story about nineteenth century Chicago as told through individual stories of Chicago business leaders, politicians and Chicago citizens. You will enjoy how the story unfolds and the influence that Chicago and it's people had as the U.S. marched westward taking along the Midwest ideals, values, and attitudes.I can only way that I was NOT sorry that I bought Miller's book. You won't be sorry either!

For a native Chicagoan who knows all these places and streets this is a great book. It is not a travel guide. It is history. I grew up in Indiana and knew some of Chicago's wild past, but this book really gives it perspective. From a swamp that even the Indians didn't want anything to do with to the Columbian Expo of 1893, this book is a romp.Excellent book. Well worth the read. For a great companion piece read "Devil in the White City" by Larsen. That one will have you gasping to turn to the next page.

Even though I take a keen interest in the city of Chicago, the stunning scenery from its waterfront, the treasure of impressionistic paintings in its art museum, etc, I find this book far too detailed (and long) for leisurely reading. It is a history book in its own right. However, if a reader is not into town planning, architecture, journalism, or politics, he/she may find the book rather too tedious. The contents are in fact interesting. But I find the author too long-winded. And the titles of chapters do not give sufficient clue for a reader to pick those that suit his/her interest. In short, this book is recommended only for readers who are looking to study the history of Chicago.

This is simply an excellent history of Chicago, from the first settlement through the rebuilding after the great fire. This book is so good that I gave it to a Chicago friend as a Christmas gift. In fact, it's so excellent that the Chicago Architectural Foundation has their docents read it and use the information on their tours! I know this after taking a tour; the docent mentioned much of the information contained in the book. I asked her afterward if she was familiar with the book, and she told me that it's a significant part of their study materials.

A very detailed history of Chicago up to the beginning of the 20th century. The author covers every part of the growth of the city, its various movers and shakers, its low life, sleaze bags and upper crust wealthy citizens. In some respects the detail is more then is necessary to get the proper perspective of the events and people who shaped them but the reader can't complain that the subject was not thoroughly covered. I recommend the book to all Chicago residents who call the second city home and are interested in the city's development.

Very well written and informative. If you are interested in 19th century American history this book is for you. From the founding of Chicago to the end of the 19th century is described in interesting story form with details about the important people who impacted the city. The good and the bad are mentioned without bias.

I was looking for a book to prepare for my first trip to Chicago. This book really fit the bill. It gave me some great background knowledge so I could appreciate everything I was seeing on my visit. Beyond being very informative it's just a fun easy read

A great mystery turned into a conspiracy theory 101. Love the characters and the fact you couldn't tell who the main villain was throughout most of the book.

It was fine for a chance in the pace of the usual light novels. It does become evident who the main source of conflict is around midway, but the focus on the story is something that I really enjoyed.

I couldn't put this book down. Wished their was a sequel to it. The characters were typical of a shojo story but the plot focused on discovering a cure for Demon Claw instead of the romance which kept me interested in it.

Has a story to tell and engaging. Bring on vol. 2

If you ever had a lot riding on one paper, you can relate to Mia. Chances are, however, that you didn’t believe your research was the one thing that could save your mother.Set in the mythical Kingdom of Isea, village girl Mia is accepted as a pharmacology student at the national academy. While many of her classmates are content with getting a thesis topic from their instructor, Mia is insistent on doing her own idea and getting money for her research. She can’t do her Grand Plan alone though, and when she reveals she wants to do her research on the plague known as Demon Claw, she finds herself not only isolated but threatened as well. Fortunately, she manages to get three students to join her team: Felix, a law student repeating his first year, Henrik, a blunt but practical medical student, and Felix’s mage friend (and babysitter) Mathias.Right away, some of you are probably rolling your eyes. Another harem story where everyone is interested in the heroine. Well, first off, Mathias is only in the group because of Felix. Secondly, the story never dissolves into being a fullblown romance. Mia isn’t a complete dunce when it comes to romantic interest, but she is focused on her research goals. She is also concerned Felix has just become attached to her because she helped him during a panic attack. Many main love interests have emotional scars, but we don’t often see an actual condition like PTSD. It’s Henrik who has more of the standoffish qualities typically found in the main hero/heroine, but both are rather supportive of Mia. Felix in particular throws his full weight into fulfilling Mia’s dream, and it’s been a long while since I’ve seen someone be that determined to help, especially in a non-gushy or light love story like this. Also unlike many current licensed light novels, Mia and the Forbidden Medicine Report is a stand-alone story. It is very much what the title says: Mia and her report, not Mia and her years-long study or career. Perhaps author Yamamoto will write a sequel one day, but for now, the story covers the four students trying to get a grant despite opposition and lack of research materials on Demon Claw. It’s a bit of a different feeling, as other authors would have spent volumes on Mia and her team narrowing down a topic, pouring over files for clues, creating a proposal, and trying to implement social change. There’s a lot that needs to happen with a mission as ambitious as Mia’s, and it takes a little while for the story to find its groove. The early chapters are a bit heavy on explanation, but medical jargon and whatnot are virtually nonexistent. There is some skipping or shortening of scenes and some perfectly-aligned sets of circumstances. If the story were ever adapted to some other medium, I’d love to see the dramatic moment when Mia finally presents her stubborn professor with a finished Grand Plan or really show the months ticking by. The ending is conclusive enough to be a full story, but there is still plenty of room for the author or even fans to build upon.Case in point: the steampunk setting. I remember feeling shocked when robotic guards were suddenly mentioned about 40% of the way through so I didn’t get that impression at all when I was reading, although looking back, there are a few easily-missed references to “autobikes” and the like. I just assumed it was a typical fantasy world with some modern conveniences like automobiles. Robots obviously aren’t a huge issue when the subject of the story is about researching human diseases, but if the author was going to have automatons, I wish the story would have done something with them. At the very least, you’d think the major academic facility would have a department where students work on new or improving technology.Or, you know, it felt pretty unnecessary considering the light novel was rather unique. I mean, not having someone whisked away to a land of magic is already fairly uncommon in the current light novel market, but an average girl whose only special ability is hours of memorizing herbs and treatments? It makes Mia and the Forbidden Medicine Report have a surprising realistic feel to it despite the existence of magic and mages going berserk. It’s rare to not have “beating the demon lord” as the ultimate goal to stop a disease. Plus, the artwork was perfectly placed in the story, and the dialogue felt more natural compared to some other Cross Infinite World works. I believe it’s also shorter than some of their other recent releases, so I’m sure that played a factor. You may think that a story about writing a report is about as much fun as actually writing a report, but good characters, a deep-seated mystery, and a dash of magic make Mia and the Forbidden Medicine Report a light novel worth reading.- Krystallina
