I recently started working my way through the financial engineering explained book series... I have not read them all yet, but this book stands out clearly above the rest from my point of view.As with all of the explained books, it suffers from not delving deep into any topic. This makes it harder to understand points as the book goes along further without utilizing resources outside of the book. This book, unlike the others, has excel workbooks that you can review to further your understanding (which is a real boon to the reader).The author mixes in more practical experience (mostly euro focused) than the other books of series too. I can honestly say, I am looking forward to reading the second part of this book too.P.S. my favorite tidbit from the book was the example of building a discount curve via matrix inversion. It brought a smile to my face how easy it was to recreate via a python console with numpy...

Good book overall. Catchy start with many stories about the authors experience. Many stories and anecdotes were repeated often. This is not bad, just an observation.Some chapters felt disjointed and disconnected to the titles/themes. And I don’t think the author ever really got around to “things that make white people uncomfortable.” Maybe the statements about activism and philanthropy were the areas that make them uncomfortable. The mention of #blacklivesmatter is something that absolutely makes white people uncomfortable.It the title were something else, I would have assumed that this book was an autobiography. Maybe it is.

Please read this book by Michael Bennett and Dave Zirin. It gives insight into many things including Black LivesMatter, the NFL, Women’s Rights, nutrition and a myriad of other topics. Mr Bennett doesn’t just talk, his actions show a caring, thoughtful and active person. A must read for everyone.

This book was so unexpected. I wanted stories of the Seattle Seahawks and got those. I didn't expect essays about food, intersectionality, and women's rights. I walked away incredible impressed, wiping a few tears along the way.

Quick read. Opened my eyes to several things that happen in a Black community, kids growing up without hero’s.. I really don’t think this book would make white people uncomfortable , I think it was a sell gimmic. Michaell Bennet is truly a family man.

Michael Bennett writes a really compelling story about the hardships he had to overcome to become a pro football player. However of more importance about this book is all of the things he is doing to enhance society as a whole for everyone, Black, Women, Kids, Homeless etc.If you thought football players were just 'dumb jocks'' read this book and you'll have a different perspective.

But one thing I’ve noticed is how he doesn’t really mention his contract holdouts in Seattle over the years, he does say how much he loves Seattle and the atmosphere there so much, now he’s a Philly Eagle.

Bennett is a confident, brilliant, and thoughtful person who has done a great deal to popularize protest against police brutality in the United States. This book provides a window into Bennett’s support of the Black Lives Matter movement and much, much more. In the tradition of Black activist athletes like Mahmoud Abdul Rauf, Muhammad Ali, and Jack Johnson, his political views are a threat to those who would rather see black men shut up and smile and play the game, and Bennett is now being persecuted for his stances. The Houston PD filed ridiculous trumped up charges against him just as this book was published, for an incident that allegedly occurred 14 months ago. I encourage folks to read this book, and decide for yourselves whether Bennett is “morally bankrupt” as Art Acevedo of the Houston PD claims, or whether he is an insightful and peaceful man who offers a strong argument that this country is not currently living up to its own principles of equal rights and equal justice for women, black people, and more. It is a rare treat to read a work by a prominent athlete whose passions and interests far exceed the game and whose example to young people we should all strive to uphold and promote. Five stars, highly recommended.

This book covers fundamental statics concepts that are required for thermodynamics, strength of materials and many other engineering concepts. I personally have a hard time understanding statics when trying to learn from this book, there is a decent amount of examples in each section but some concepts are "skipped" when explaining examples simply because the author assumes you already understand certain Algebra/geometric concepts. If you do not understand a concept or method STOP and redo the section before moving forward! you cannot skip or fail and continue learning statics well, every concept builds on the last. My biggest problem with this text book is that the rental I received was beyond damaged, and with no time to return and get a different copy (class had already started) I was forced to use a book with torn binding, missing pages and heavy abuse. I've attached pictures of the book I received from amazon rentals. I've also attached a picture of the number of times this book was rented out, I could count at least 9 stock tags.

A lot of information that we hardly reviewed from the book in class; what a waste.

This book is just okay. The book has fairly good explanations of the ideas, but in the "step by step" examples, they don't always tell you what they're doing. I don't know if they're just assuming I'll catch it, but if you're trying to figure out how to do the problem, it's sometimes very hard to understand how they get what they do. My college professor doesn't like this book for that reason either, but I guess there's not much to choose from in this area...And there ARE answers to the odd numbered questions in the back of the book, which helps.

The book was ordered new but it arrived damaged. The front cover has a torn in it. I expect more from Amazon. I would return it if I didn't need it at the moment. Will not order books from Amazon again. Otherwise the book content was good and it was the correct book and arrived on time.

I had to purchase this book for a class and it is a great introductory book. The book is non calc based so not everything is covered but if you need to communicate with an engineer and learn engineering terminonlogy this is the book for you. Several topics are covered such as simple truss anaylsis and load distribution as well thermal effects on building materials. Material testing regulations and standards are also discussed. There are many more topics covered that can put you on track when communicating with an engineer. I am a carpenter and communicating with engineers is sometimes an everyday event. Knowing engineering basics helps tremedously.

Not really useful for me. My teacher does not use it in class, he just give as a homework from end of the chapter. Average book, does not explain everything like I would like to see in the book for $150.

I had read a few reviews that said the book was bad... But it was the course material book so what can you do? If at all possible find an alternative to this book. The concepts are not clear or precise and the examples are not fully explained. Unless you are very competent with math and logic leaps, this is not a great source for learning.
