We gave this lovely book to our 13-year-old granddaughter to help prepare her for our trip to Paris. Not only did Monet's garden and house come alive to her, but she also had a much greater interest in visiting the famous Orsay and Orangerie Museums to see some of the artist's gorgeous works. Although our granddaughter was a bit old for Linnea in Monet's Garden, it was a perfect way to spark enthusiasm. She even took art supplies with her so she could sit and sketch while we sat near that famous lily pond!

Linnea, a young Swedish girl has developed quite a friendship with the elderly Mr. Bloom, her upstairs neighbor. Mr. Bloom is a retired gardener who is the proud owner of a lovely book about the great French artist, Claude Monet. After hours and hours of studying Monet and his life, the pair begin the ultimate adventure: a trip to Paris, and where it all began! Linnea and Mr. Bloom visit the Marmottan museum to observe the many paintings of Monet. They study his artwork and how the genius painted. They learn about other Impressionist artists--many who were great friends of Monet. Eventually the young child and elderly gentleman make the ultimate trek to Giverny, where Monet lived and painted.This book could almost be a 'fun' textbook. The artwork, both of the author's and of Monet's is absolutely exquisite. Becoming familiar with Monet's life and his paintings become a marvelous art history lesson. As an adult, I not enjoyed reading this lovely book but I learned a lot. In fact, a few days after reading LINNEA in Monet's Garden I was watching a Sex in the City episode where Charlotte was showing a group of people one of Monet's 'lily' murals. Being familiar with that painting because of this book was an exciting moment for me!

This is such a beautiful way to introduce children to the Impressionists and who better to start than with than Monet. This book takes the reader on a journey through the life he and his family lived, it paints a beautiful picture of Monet's beloved garden, the lily pond, the Japanese bridge and much more.It's not a book for the very young, the story line is a bit too complex, my children start to enjoy this book from the age of 6. I highly recommend it, I'm now going to try and find the other Linnea books.

One of my favorite books. If you are a Monet fan you can connect with the Giverney gardens through the little girl, Linnea. A great book for introducing children to impressionism.

This book is for much older children who really want to learn something about art history. It also mentions the death of Monet's first wife.

This comprehensive, informative guide for parenting is a Gem! During my thirty years in Health-care (Nursing), I have researched, but never did find a practical guide so effective as this one, not to mention, I remember all to well those Sleepless nights when raising my children. Dr. Karp uses his expertise on the subject, wisdom, blended with humor in creating a Masterpiece of practical advice that is extremely helpful for parents and their children, under the age of five. Prevention of sleep deprivation is the best advice, along with key factors that are helpful. The consequences of no sleep can indeed cause illness, conflict, obesity and more. This book is filled with insight and many helpful tips as it reveals simple steps to ensure better sleep patterns and habits, while it prevents parental insanity. Dr. Karp weaves together a valuable tool of knowledge, especially for first-time parents, using science mixed with common sense. The book is easy to read with simple clarity, using a encouraging tone. Highly Recommended!

This book would be incredibly helpful if you read it before your baby is is three months old. After that it is of limited use because most of the advice depends on you having done what the book said when your baby was a newborn. Late comers will still get some helpful tips, but may find another method or book more useful.

LIFE. SAVER.Used the techniques outlined in this book, and both my kids are amazing sleepers. After bringing our first home from the hospital (now 3.5 years old), we looked at each other, crying, exhausted, in pain, not knowing what the heck to do with this tiny, screaming, starving human that wouldnt sleep. This was recommended to us by a friend who said "read it BEFORE you have the baby", but we didn't, and that was a HUGE mistake. So, while trying to breastfeed and dealing with the pain of a rough delivery and 30 hours of labor, and after not having slept for about 6 days, got this for the kindle and sort of read it while in a stupor, and seriously, this changed our lives. Used the same techniques for my second (now 14 months) and he still resists naps, but both of my kids started sleeping through the night at a young age. And really, my second would be a terrible sleeper if it wasnt for the techniques in this book. He takes a 2-3 hour morning nap, a 1-2 hour afternoon nap (usually), and sleeps about 11-12 hours at night. My first still takes an awesome 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon and sleeps about 11 hours at night.If you need to know what the essentials are for a new parent, this is one of them! I now buy this for every baby shower I go to. All a new parent needs is this book, a crib, a swaddle or sleep sack, a white noise machine, a wubbanub, a few onesies & footy pajames, loads of diapers, and boobs/formula. All the other stuff they tell you to get is really just for fun! :)Good luck!

LIFE-CHANGING! You do not need to read the entire book to follow the system, but I was so impressed with it that I read the entire thing. I used this in combination with the CD of white noise and had my daughter sleeping through the night the very first night I implemented it (at two months old). I could almost see the relief in her eyes as I followed this system and she was finally able to get the sleep she was desperate for. It has been four years and I STILL play the CD in her room each night. This is my go-to baby shower book and I have purchased it countless times since.

Very little new information from the original Happiest Baby on the Block (which we couldn't live without) and this book itself is pretty redundant. Felt like the Groundhogs Day of reading. I think the better pairing is Happiest Baby on the Block + No Cry Sleep Solution.

Stuck to his strategies and had our little one go from struggling with naps and never sleeping more than an hour or so during the night to regular naps and 3-4 hour stretches in the first month. It is definitely worth a try if you have a fussy sleeper!

I have read the book many times and even have pages bookmarked that I revisit when I reach a new developmental stage and need advice for my baby. I like that it is not extreme (not attachment parenting but not the fever method either) so it gives balanced advice and doesn't guilt you for using one method over another. It also provides different options rather than preaching one "right" way.

We followed a lot of the advice from this book. Our pediatrician also recommended strategies described within. Our 5 month is sleeping pretty well which I think is in part due to things we learned from this book.

What a useful book! Karp's books have revolutionized my mothering skills and filled me with confidence. Buy this, the happiest baby book, and the fisher price swing. You will not be sorry!!!

Great explanation of moon phases for my 3-year-old (and a good refresher for me)! Goes into detail but not too much for the younger kids.

This book won’t disappoint when studying space & the moon.

I'm glad I bought this book. My 6 year understood and read easily. My 4 year old needed more explaining. I learned a few things. The activity is nice.

I purchased this book to go along with a moon/sun science lesson. It is a cute book with some good, interesting information, but it did not work for the purpose of reading aloud to the kids. I let the kids look at it one at a time, but I used something different for reading aloud. Still a good book for the money.

I love this book for young children. I recently got a wall mounted moon light that has a remote to show different moon phases. This book will be great with it!

This book provided a straight forward intro to the phases of the moon for my first graders. We did the experiment with the orange and it was very successful. The kids have enjoyed looking at it again and again.

Explained in a simplistic manner. My kid liked the moon phases experiment. It is very good book but there is still room to make it better. That is the reason for 4 stars.

Being reared eleven miles from Clemson University, and youngest daughters of a Clemson graduate, South Carolina State Senator T. Ed. Garrison, Jr., there was no question that Catherine and Elizabeth like their older siblings, Gaye, Tom, Bart, and Lee would go anywhere other than Clemson! Like other Little Tigers, their love for Clemson began early. Catherine and Elizabeth loved going to football games with their family. Game day mornings, the girls would set up a display of all their Clemson treasures on their farms sign by the road for all to see on their way to Death Valley. It was especially exciting to cheer as the Clemson football teams buses zoomed by headed to the game! While at Clemson, Elizabeth and Catherine were roommates and sorority sisters. Elizabeth was on IPTAY Student Advisory Board and received the Trustees Medal for public speaking. Catherine was a University Tour Guide and Clemson Homecoming Queen. Or was it Elizabeth? (As identical twins, they had lots of fun confusing folks all over campus!) Catherine lives in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina with her husband Mark and their two little boys, Tillman and James. Elizabeth and her husband Jake live in Greenville and own and operate Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants. All return frequently to help with events at their familys Century Farm, Denver Downs, in Anderson and still love going to Clemson events.

This is written in the vernacular that only a Ph D candidate can appreciate. Expect to read passages a couple of time as Rollins gets bogged down in polysyllabic words to relay simple concepts. Although I may not agree with every tenant that he espouses, I must say that his premise of betraying organized religion in order to save "faith" is quite compelling. This is a must read for anyone into apologetics. It's even a good read for someone in a crisis of faith or who wants to understand their faith more.

Excellent book that lays out in a scholarly way exactly the issues which Jews and Christians have with the scriptural narrative. It has taken us a long time to get back to St Augustine's insight and Rollins should be congratulated. One only hopes the Episcopal Church turns back from its pursuit of politically correct dogma in order to emphasize personal transformation.

Fidelity of Betrayal is a great read if you are willing not to argue with it from the start. It offers an intriguing way of examining the place and role of Judas in the Gospels that is imaginative and challenging. Through its examination of old testament narrative and the gospels argument is made that causes one to reexamine centuries held assumptions. While it may not work well in its rawest forms as content for a Sunday morning congregation, it definitely is a good read for anyone who is involved in exegetical work of any kind (preachers, teachers, etc.).

I've read Peter Rollins' How Not to Speak of God a few times, and that short discourse always leaves me wanting more. The Fidelity of Betrayal is that something more. Using popular Bible passages, the book examines the seemingly contradictory notion that perhaps the most religious thing we can do is to not be religious. This is Rollins at his best: academic, challenging, and unconventional.

This book turns religion on it's head. It makes you think about the gospel in ways you always thought were heretical, but in which makes complete sense. Very challenging. Peter Rollins writes at a pretty high level, almost like reading philosophy which is one reason I love it!

An outstanding book that presents a mature view of God beyond the need to literalize and fully in line with mystic thought and experience. Absolutely essential for anyone moving toward a mature Christian experience.

I found this to be a very enjoyable and accessible exploration of the paradox of faith. Mr. Rollins has a gift for balancing a rich intellectualism with humility, humor, and vibrant sorry-telling. I very much appreciated the parables too!

I just have one parable to illustrate from the book that pretty much gives you a taste of what this book is all about. I am paraphrasing here but here is the main gist of this parable. its about a monk dude that lives at the base of this mountain and the guy lives in a very secluded area and doesn't even have a door on his house. so this thief knows this and is like, bam I could rob this guy super easy so he makes the trek out while this monk is out walking and when he gets inside the door the house is empty. The monk returns and finds the startled burglar and says to him. wow brother man i feel bad you came all the way out here to rob me and have got nothing to show for it. so he gets naked and gives the thief his clothes and the blanket he sleeps on. the thief just takes the stuff and peaces out not knowing how to respond. as the monk builds a fire and looks up to the moon he says. man if that thief knew i was even ready to give him the moon. You see the treasure this monk had is not something that belonged to him but rather was given to him and the only way to respond is this- "all one can do when ones treasure is not of physical nature is to point toward it, recall it, and invite people to bask in it."
